DIY Carpet Cleaning Tips
Owning a home or business premises with carpets installed is quite a responsibility. Many people overlook the fact that carpets actually represent a massive investment of money. This is why it just makes sense to try and protect this investment by keeping the carpets in the best condition possible for as long as possible. The best way to do this is to keep them clean and the following DIY carpet cleaning tips will help you to do so.
1. Deodourizing The Carpet
One of the biggest complaints many people have about carpets is that they easily absorb odours and smells from the surrounding space. This can result in unpleasant odours no matter how clean you keep the room. One way to combat this is a simply sprinkling of bicarbonate of soda or baking soda. Lightly sprinkle some of this over the entire carpet before bed and then simply vacuum the space in the morning.
2. Vacuum Well
Vacuuming is not the mindless task many people think it is. You need to vacuum an area with the vacuum handle set to the correct height and at the right speed. If you vacuum to fast with the handle set too low you will not pick up much dirt at all and you may actually damage the carpet fibers with the pressure exerted due to the angle at which you hold the vacuum. Slow and deliberate vacuuming is the best strategy.
3. Treat Spills Immediately
When it comes to spills, always treat them as soon as they happen. Also, never rub the carpet to try and remove a spill as this simply works the stain deeper into the carpet fibers. Always use a very absorbent cloth and dap the stain lightly and repeatedly until you cannot soak up anything more. Next, use carbonated water on the stain. This should help lift as much of the stain as possible and prevent ugly stains from setting in at all.
